Driving
If you decide to rent a car to get around and explore the island, there are a few
things you should know. Unless otherwise posted, speed limits in built-up areas is 40km/h and
60 km/h on highways and rural areas. Many rural roads are dirt with many potholes.

If you are involved in an accident, DO NOT MOVE THE CAR, notify the police by calling 911
and wait for them to arrive.
- Driving is on the right.
- Right turns on red are prohibited.
- Speed limits are posted in kilometers per hour.
- Traffic on traffic circles (rotaries, round-abouts) has the right of way. Drivers
entering the circles must wait for an opening.
- U.S. and international driver's licenses are valid.
- At all intersections traffic coming from the right has the right of way.
- Obey right, left and center arrows on multilane roads.
- Pedestrians always have the right of way.
- Wear your seatbelt.
Outside of downtown areas there are no street signs and house numbers do not follow any
particular order. Watch for dogs, goats or donkeys wandering on the roads.
If you should get lost, look at the way the Divi trees are bent, they will always point west
toward the hotel/resort area.
